Research Experience :

Between academic years 1984 and 1990, involved in conceptualization, design and development of Multiprocessor Computing Systems, which were not commercially available and this area of research was in the nascent stage of research and development. The system was successfully built based on the bus architecture and later expanded it to a hierarchical multi-bus system, conducting performance tests and improving the performance by fine-tuning the hardware and software. Initially the work was carried out in the Instrumentation Laboratory/ Central Computer facility and later at the Knowledge Based Computing Systems (KBCS) Laboratory of Super Computer Education and Research Center (SERC) of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Area of research during doctoral work was in the general field of Multicomputer Architecture covering both hardware implementation and software design for efficient communication and scalability. The thesis was to demonstrate the feasibility of decomposition of computational problems into parallel structures that could execute on a hierarchical parallel architecture which is scalable without any communication bottlenecks. The implementation demonstrated the linear speedup obtainable on such a Multicomputer bus architecture involving hierarchical bus structures and message passing communication paradigm. The system is scalable with increasing number of processors due to hierarchical interconnection among processors, which support multi-threaded execution of concurrent parallel processes of a program.

Continuing further the work in the Parallel Computer Architecture field, successfully supervised two Ph.D. candidates in the area of the emerging field of Quantum Computing and the degree was awarded to both of them during March 2008 in the 7th annual convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University.
